The optimal window is between 28-32 weeks. We do routinely scan from 26 weeks up to 34 weeks. Around the 30 week mark, your baby's facial features are developed enough to be well-defined in ultrasound images.

Also, there's still a good amount of amniotic fluid which is vital for great visualisation. The fluid decreases as the pregnancy progresses, potentially making it more challenging to get clear images later on.

Yes, it is highly recommended, though optional. Since the 3D ultrasound scan is an elective procedure, filling your bladder is not mandatory but is strongly advised. Having a full bladder can significantly improve the chances of obtaining high-quality images. It helps in optimally positioning the baby, either due to the pressure from the full bladder or their movement when you empty it. Additionally, a full bladder can effectively move the bowel out of the way, allowing for clearer imaging. While it is your choice to drink water before the scan, staying well hydrated can greatly enhance the overall effectiveness of the ultrasound, giving us the best opportunity to capture great images.

You need to be at least 16 weeks for our 3D scans, gender determination, and heartbeat recordings. For gender, the further along you are, the more accurate the results will be. We usually get a good look around the 17-18 week mark for most babies.
